Well, the deadline for obtaining congressional approval under the War Powers Act has passed, and it is clear that our President doesn't give a crap that he currently has our military engaged in an illegal war with Libya. This pisses me off too much to speak reasonably. See here and here for more info/opinion.

This isn't about the war per se, it's about following the damn law. The President needs some form of congressional approval for a war within 60 days, or he has to remove the troops from the conflict. He's chosen instead to just pretend the law doesn't apply. And our pusillanimous Congress is too cowardly to call him out on it. Every time I think I'm too cynical about politics, stuff like this happens. Sigh...

Links Roundup for 5/25/2011

More links! (Blogging while hiding in the bathroom due to another Tornado Warning. Welcome to the 21st century!)

1) An awesome slow-motion x-ray video of How Dogs Drink.

2) I love this list. I want it on a poster.

3) I want this age verification screen to be real so very much.

4) You really need to see the customer images for this toy. (via)

5) Best description of Disney EVER: (via)
[P]eople thought Walt Disney was crazy, and in fact, he was. He bought some orange groves and said, "I'm gonna make tourists from all over the world come here." He wanted to carpet part of it. The story is his wife had to talk him out of it.

After that succeeded, he set up a secret cluster of fronts/companies and secretly bought huge tracts of uninhabitable, gator-infested swampland in Florida to do the same thing again, only bigger.

He hired engineers to build robot pirates. How does it get any cooler than robot pirates?! The original Pirates of the Caribbean (before they PC'd it up) was little more than a musical salute to rape and alcoholism, and we all bought into it as family entertainment.
6) A scathing attack on Capcom's DRM that locks out game owners while the PlayStation Network is down.

7) Best use of LEGOs ever? I report, you decide!

Amusing Links Roundup for 5/17/2011

Another batch of amusing links for your consumption:

1) The name says it all - Shit My Students Write.

2) What if IKEA wrote the manuals for all of my favorite sci-fi gadgets?

3) How would one explain the Kindle to Dickens? Like this!

5) I can't remember if I've posted this before, but this is awesome: by deleting the final panel of Peanuts cartoons, they become illustrations of existential despair.

6) A hilariously NSFW video involving Michael Bolton hijacking a rap video.

8) I may not speak Hebrew, but this comic needs no translation.

Links Roundup for 5/5/2011

Another round of tab-clogging goodness from around the internet:

2) Caustically "honest" versions of corporate logos.

3) The most unsettling thing I've ever seen on the web.

4) Abandoned Yugoslavian monuments. It looks like some crazy depopulated dystopian future.

5) Why Chrysler's announcement of paying back the Federal loans isn't all it appears to be. (Hint: they had about $4 billion forgiven or discharged in the bankruptcy.)

6) Fighting the TSA "freedom grope" by making the pat down process as awkward as possible. The soundtrack makes it even better.
